Expert Answers about Adjustable Trailer Coupler

  • Why Does Demco Trailer Coupler w/ 5-Position Adjustable Channel Use Grade 5 and not 8 Bolts
  • Using Grade 8 hardware with the Demco Trailer Coupler w/ 5-Position Adjustable Channel # DM6125-81 most likely would be just fine, but in some cases Grade 5 is actually preferred. Reason being that Grade 8 does have a very high tensile strength but because of that it can be very brittle. Demco tested and found that Grade 5 is perfect for the # DM6125-81. I will pass what you said on to Amanda!

  • Type Of Bolts Included With 5th Wheel To Gooseneck Coupler Adapter
  • I went to our warehouse and checked the Ranch Hitch Universal 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter, part # AM3100. The couplers still have the 2 square head bolts used for adjusting the height of the coupler. They arrive at our warehouse with the hardware in the box. We cannot endorse using any other hardware than what's supplied by the manufacturer.

  • A-Frame Trailer Coupler that Can be Bolted Onto a Trailer
  • Bulldog A-frame trailer coupler # BD43805W0317 does not have holes on the side because it is a weld-on coupler. Coupler # BD44150WH301 can be bolted on but it is for a 2-5/16 inch ball, not a 2 inch ball like # BD43805W0317. All of the other A-frame couplers we have are weld-on applications. If you go with a weld-on coupler the welding will need to be performed by a qualified professional welder.

  • Does the Bulldog Cast Head Trailer Coupler BD4420000317 Come with Mounting Hardware
  • For the Bulldog trailer coupler # BD4420000317 you will need to use your own hardware. The bolt holes on the coupler are 5/8 inches in diameter. You will want to use grade 5 or higher quality bolts. The coupler could be welded on, however because this is a cast coupler and welding cast is difficult, it would have to be done by a qualified professional welder with experience in cast welding along with special electrodes to complete a weld installation.

  • Does The Dutton-Lainson Trailer Coupler # DL13728 Come With a Coupler Pin and Chain?
  • We have the Dutton-Lainson Coupler Repair Kit # DL13968 that includes the chain and pin that will fit the Dutton-Lainson Trailer Coupler # DL13728. You can remove the chain and pin while holding onto the other parts in the event you need to replace the coupler latch. Personally I am not a big fan of that type of pin as it can fall out as it wears down over time. I recommend the Master Lock Hitch Receiver and Coupler Latch Lock Set # 2848DAT as it allows you to secure your trailer to your...

  • Trailer Coupler Snapper Pin Recommendation with Lanyard to Secure to Trailer
  • The JR Products 1/4" Diameter Coupler Pin # 37201271 is a pretty basic snapper pin that doesn't come with a way to secure it to your trailer when it's removed from the coupler. For an alternative that stays secured to your trailer I recommend the Coupler Pin w/ Chain # 37201171 which has the same 1/4" and a smaller 1-3/8" length, but if you're using this for a standard latch then the shorter length won't be an issue at all.

  • Are There Instructions Included with Trailer Coupler Mounting
  • There are not any instructions included with the Trailer Coupler 1-7/8 inch Ball 2 inch Channel Tongue 2,000 lbs, part # E112000340. That is because there are two ways it can be mounted. It can be either bolted or welded on, it is up to the trailer owner how he prefers to mount the coupler.

  • Package Contents of Demco A-Frame Trailer Coupler with Jack Center Hole # DM16680-52
  • The Demco coupler # DM16680-52 you were looking at does not include the hardware needed for installation. It would be a good idea to switch over from your weld on to a bolt on coupler, this will make it a whole lot easier to replace over time as it wears out as you have stated.

  • Keyed Alike 2 Receiver Hitch Locks and a Trailer Couple Lock

With the locks you are interested in, I would like to suggest one lock set hitch and coupler lock set, part # e99039, that includes a hitch lock and coupler lock, and then purchasing one extra hitch lock, part # e98880. You may save a couple dollars this way.

  • The weight distribution shank and weight distribution head are included with the Reese Steadi-Flex, part # RP66558, that you selected. The only item you will need to complete the installation is a properly sized hitch ball to match the coupler on your trailer.
